He won individual championships in cross country at the 1956 Little State and Indiana Collegiate Conference meets, and he won the 50-yard freestyle swimming championship at Little State in 1957. Blake set DePauw, ICC and Little State course records in cross country and DePauw pool records in the 60-yard freestyle and as a member of the distance medley relay swim team. In the Wabash Relays, he helped set the track record in the distance medley relay. He earned All-America status in cross country in 1958 and was selected DePauw's Athlete of the Year in 1959. Following graduation, he ran competitively for several years, in races including the Boston Marathon. He began his career with Container Corporation of America in Arlington, Texas, and was vice president of manufacturing for Susan Crane Packaging in Dallas from 1972 to 1976. He then helped found Overwraps, Inc. in Dallas and now serves as president and chairman of the board of that company.
