ELIZABETH BROERING ERNST ’01
Beth Broering Ernst was a two-sport athlete for the Tigers, competing on the swimming and diving and track and field teams, and she earned eight varsity letters between the two. As a member of the track and field team, Ernst competed in the pole vault and high jump as well as hurdles. In 2000 she won the high jump at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships at 5’ 5-3/4” and also earned all-conference honors in the pole vault and 100-meter hurdles as DePauw captured the team title. That high jump performance remains a school record. She repeated all-SCAC honors in those three events in 2001 and was all-conference in 1999 in the high jump. At the 2000 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Ernst captured all-America honors after finishing in a tie for eighth in the high jump. At the 2001 SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships, Ernst was named Female Diver of the Year after winning the 3-meter championship. In all, she earned four all-conference honors in the three years the Tigers competed at the SCAC Championships. Ernst earned a B.A. degree in computer science and math and graduated magna cum laude. Following graduation, she earned M.S. (2003) and Ph.D. (2009) degrees in computer science from University of Michigan. Ernst has taught computer science courses at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, University of St. Thomas and, currently, at Macalester College. Ernst and her husband, Dan, are parents of Sarah and Thomas.
