"Ikie" Myers was undefeated in the mile and half mile during his running days at DePauw from 1913-1916. He set a new state record in 1913 when he ran the 880 in 2:04. Two years later he set the state mile mark at Purdue, winning in a time of 4:24.3 He eventually set the DePauw mile mark in a time of 4:19.2, a record that stood until 1972! And his 880 record of 1:57.4 stood until 1968. Considered the premier miler and half-miler of his day, he won these events in the national AAU meet in Newark, NJ in 1916. He retired after a career with the General Electric Company and in 1980 was living in Sun City, AZ.
