DePauw Athletics Hall of Fame
Tim Hreha, who is being inducted posthumously, worked in various capacities at DePauw, including assistant football coach for nearly 50 years. He was head men’s track and field coach for 14 seasons, during which he coached Alan Hill ‘81 to the NCAA Division III pole vault championship in 1981. Hreha started the women’s track and field program and was its head coach for seven seasons. The 2016 Spirit of the Monon Bell Award recipient was an assistant coach for the 1981 football team that was inducted into the DePauw Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016. He retired in 2019 and was a volunteer assistant in football and track and field until his death in January 2022. As a student-athlete at DePauw, Hreha was a three-year starting defensive tackle, co-captain and the team’s spirit award winner in 1971. He earned the M.A.T. degree in physical education from DePauw in 1976, while serving as a graduate assistant football coach. Following a year at Shenandoah High School, Hreha returned to DePauw for the 1978-79 year and rejoined the football staff as an assistant coach. He was devoted to Pat Gammon, his life partner, and her family as well as his cousins Jackie Bennett, James Barry and Jeff Barry.
