Adam Cohen came to DePauw in 1987 as the graduate assistant coach for football and men’s swimming and diving and was named men’s swimming and diving head coach in 1988-89. During the course of his 35 seasons, Cohen was Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year six times as he directed the Tigers to no worse than a second-place finish with seven titles including the last six. He also was chosen North Coast Athletic Conference Men’s Swim Coach of the Year in 2013. His teams scored at the NCAA Division III Championships in 24 seasons and finished a program-best 11th in 2008 and 2015. DePauw teams finished in the top 20 at the Division III Championships 12 times during his tenure. Among the individuals he coached, Sam McManus won the Division III 200-yard breaststroke title at the 2018 NCAA Championships. His teams posted an 84-50-1 dual meet record. Cohen retired in November 2023.

In the community, Adam served Babe Ruth, was a huge advocate of the Greencastle Park's department and was one of the earliest advocates and supporters of a YMCA in Putnam County. For more than 30 years, Adam served in multiple roles for the Indiana Delta Chapter of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, and as an advocate for Jewish students, staff, and faculty at DePauw.  For 16 years, Adam served the First Ward on city council, eventually serving as council president.
