A three-sport athlete at DePauw, Paul Mitchell earned varsity letters in soccer, tennis, and wrestling. The 1968-69 DePauw Athlete of the Year, Mitchell was also the most valuable player of the wrestling and tennis teams. He posted a 16-0-1 record for the wrestling team and won the Indiana Collegiate Conference, Little State and Great Lakes titles. He was in the singles lineup each of his final three years. In that time the team posted a 32-9 mark,while he finished with a 27-10 record in the singles and a 28-6 record in doubles. In his two ICC Tennis Championships he captured the number one doubles title both times. He helped take the tennis team to a 10-3 record as a junior and captured a singles championship at the Great Lakes Colleges Association tournament. During his sophomore year, Mitchell was part of DePauw's first varsity soccer team.
