As a high school all-state and all-conference player at Elgin Academy in Barrington, Ill., Colleen Konicek was destined to become a leader in field hockey at DePauw.   In 1985, her sophomore year, at her left inner position, she set a new scoring record with 19 goals.  That effort paced a team with a prior year 2-12-2 record to a record 15 wins and second place in the state championship tournament.  In her junior year she topped that record with 24 goals and the state championship.  With Konicek as co-captain, the team repeated as state champions her senior year.  Konicek finished her career with a total of 71 goals, a record that stands as of her Athletic Hall of Fame induction.  She was named to both the Indiana NAIA all-state and regional all-America teams in 1985, 1986 and 1987, and the All-Hoosier Conference of Women team.  After graduation from DePauw with a degree in English, Konicek earned a J.D. degree from The John Marshall Law School in 1992.  She has been a litigator since that time with the Chicago law firm of Connelly Roberts & McGivney.  Running has replaced field hockey for Konicek, and she enjoys competing with family teams.  She and her father, brothers and sister have won the Chicago Distance Classic half marathon the last five years.  With her brother and sister she ran the Boston Marathon in 1999 and 2000.  She also runs to benefit cancer charities, and has volunteered pro bono legal assistance and fund raising services for other charities in the Chicago area.
