David Vear was a standout high school athlete in Wheaton, IL, where he lettered in football and swimming.  He came to DePauw in 1949 where he played “both ways” – offensive center and defensive linebacker.  Wabash Coach Garland Frazier praised Vear as one of the “best small-college centers in Indiana.” He was also an outstanding swimmer, leading the DePauw tankmen in freestyle events.  He wound up his varsity career with the title of “Outstanding Overall Athlete of DePauw University” and, as a top-rated gridman in the eyes of the team and coaching staff, was voted “Most Valuable Lineman” for the 1952 season.  He earned six major letters in his two sports.  He was a member of Sigma chi fraternity, served as president of the Newman Club and was a member of the “D” Association.  Vear is currently president of Veco Corporation, an independent financial planning firm located in Oak Brook, IL.  He has held leadership positions in several trade organizations and is a 35-year member of the Million Dollar Round Table, a charter member of the $25 Million Dollar International Forum and multiple member of “Top of the Table.” He has been president of his community’s school board, on the board of governors of his community hospital and past president of the Inter-Suburban Swim Association.  He earned an M.B.A. form the University of Chicago and is a Chartered Life Underwriter.
