KEVIN M. BURNS ’88 earned four letters as a linebacker for the Tigers and recorded 313 tackles for the three seasons in which the statistic was available. That total was the highest career total for a DePauw player until 2016. Burns led the Tigers in tackles in 1987 with 145 and in 1986 with 120. His 34 tackles in a 1987 game at Dayton remains a school record. Burns was the team’s Edwin C. Boswell Freshman Award winner and a two-time Gaumey Neal Defensive Player of the Year honoree in 1986 and 1987. He also served as a captain as a senior, while garnering co-Most Valuable Player honors. Upon graduating from DePauw with a Bachelor of Arts in communication, Burns returned to campus as a graduate assistant football and baseball coach and earned a Master of Science in Sport Management from Indiana State University. He then moved on to positions with Procter & Gamble and Wells Fargo Insurance Services and, since 2009, is a managing partner at the DeHayes Group in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Burns and his wife, Katie, are the parents to Colin, Molly, Erynn and Clara.
