The 2011 Amy Hasbrook Award recipient was an eight-time all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference award winner including three conference titles (two in the javelin and one in the high jump). She was the Female Athlete of the Meet at the 2011 SCAC Championships after scoring 42 points across seven events (including a win in the javelin, and runner-up finishes in the triple jump, long jump and shot put). Carlson was selected to the SCAC 30th Anniversary Team in 2021 and still holds the program record in the javelin. Her pentathlon and heptathlon records, set in 2011, stood until 2022. Lauer also earned three varsity letters as a member of the DePauw women’s basketball team.

A Rector Scholar at DePauw, Carlson graduated magna cum laude with a major in mathematics and was a management fellow and a Chi Alpha Sigma inductee. Following graduation, Carlson accepted a full-time position with WTW to work as a pension actuary in their St. Louis office. She is still at WTW, now as a director, overseeing a number of younger associates, project managing and working toward company efficiency initiatives. Courtney and her husband, Sam, moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and are the parents to daughters: Alexis and Peyton.
