DePauw Sets Two New Pool Records Against #11 WashU

Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw women's swimming and diving team walked away with their first dual-meet loss of the season against #11 WashU 119-194, Saturday. 

DePauw opened the weekend with speed in the 200 medley relay, securing first. The Tigers' 'A' squad of Caroline Stowe, Priscilla Smith, Emily Knott, and Gabby Koon clocked a 1:45.84 - shaving off more than a second from their previous dual-meet against Franklin and setting a new pool record. 

Distance specialist Edie Patterson set the tone individually with a 1st-place finish in the 1000 freestyle (10:40.68), marking one of DePauw's top performances of the day. 

Moving to backstroke, Cora Gilbert (57.55) claimed first followed by Averie Keating (1:01.33) in third place. Gilbert finished 3rd in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:35.38 finish. Gilbert's performance set a new pool record in the 100-backstroke. 

Knott sped to a 2:11.66 finish in the 200-butterfly, claiming second for the Tigers

The Tigers took first in the 50 free with Caroline Stowe clocking a 24.33. Later in the meet she took second in the 100 freestyle (53.87) to claim another nine points for the Tigers.

Freshman Priscilla Smith swam to a 1:00.90 finish in the 100 individual medley and a 59.92 finish in the 100 butterfly for third.

In the 200 backstroke, Olivia Motz swam a 2:17.73 to finish third. 

To end on a high note the Tigers swept the 200 individual medley, with Gilbert (2:09.58), Libby Ruff (2:16.39), and Emily Knott (2:17.44). DePauw continued to sweep the 400-yard free relay with Laurie Antalis, Sophia Hulen, Patterson, and Stowe clocking a 3:34.97 to lead the pack.

Stowe and Smith proved to be a powerful duo of relay swimmers, participating in both winning relay teams. 

The Tigers now shift their focus to NCAC Swimming and Diving Championships, beginning February 11th and running through the 14th at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Admission fees apply.
