Indianapolis, Ind. - Edie Patterson and Cora Gilbert competed in one event each for day one of the NCAA DIII Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday.
Starting with women's 500 free prelims for the 10 a.m. session, Edie Patterson lead the pack in the third heat, clocking a time of 4:55.63 after entering the pool with a seed time of 4:59.43.
At the end of her heat, she claimed the lead. After the fourth, she dropped to 6th and ended in ninth place at the end of prelims.
Senior Cora Gilbert swam in heat three of eight for the 200 individual medley, placing 50th with a time of 2:08.64 after entering with a seed time of 2:06.88.
Top 16 moved onto finals, leaving Patterson to compete in the consolation final in the evening session at 6:00 p.m. She finished 10th, touching in at 4:53.02. Shaving off nearly two seconds from her time earlier in the day. 10th place gives Patterson Second Team All-American honors.
Tomorrow Patterson will compete in the 200 yard freestyle seeded 36th with a time of 1:52.07, while Gilbert will compete in the 400 IM seeded 30th with a time of 4:34.75.
Prelims start at 10:00 a.m. with finals kicking off at 6 p.m. in the IU Natatorium.
