DePauw Claims Dual-Meet Win Against Franklin

Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw women's swimming and diving team walked away with their fifth dual-meet win of the season against Franklin 170.5-125.5, Saturday for senior day. 

DePauw opened the weekend with strong depth in the 200 medley relay, securing first and third. The Tigers' 'A' squad of Caroline Stowe, Priscilla Smith, Emily Knott, and Gabby Koon clocked a 1:46.95 to lead the way for the Tigers to claim 11 points from the first event.

Distance specialist Lydia Buechler set the tone individually with another 1st-place finish in the 1000 freestyle (11:02.07), marking one of DePauw's top performances of the day. Buechler went on to win both individual events she competed in, including a Tiger sweep in the 500-free with Edie Patterson (5:23.75) and Jordan Laba (5:30.36). 

In the 200-freestyle, Libby Ruff (1:59.32), Edie Patterson (1:59.48), and Laurie Antalis (2:00.57) swept, collecting 14.5 points for the team. 

Moving to backstroke, Stowe (58.90) claimed second followed closely by Cora Gilbert (1:00.90) and Gabby Koon (1:03.86). 

McKenzie Ortolano claimed second in the 100-breast, touching in at 1:11.95 and followed up by Leah Marshall in third at 1:11.99.

Knott sped to a 58.48 finish in the 100-butterfly, tallying nine points for the Tigers. In the 200-butterfly, Emily Koon (2:11.55) and Jordan Laba (2:22.64) took second and third for DePauw, claiming seven points. 

The Tigers took first in the 50 free with freshmen Priscilla Smith clocking a 24.48. Smith also contributed heavily in relay events, helping the Tigers to first-place finishes in the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay alongside Caroline Stowe, Emily Knott, and Gabby Koon (1:46.951) and Stowe, Koon, and Laurie Antalis (1:38.48), respectively. 

Cora Gilbert excelled in the pool, collecting three top finishes: 200 IM (first-place, 2:13.67), 200-backstroke (second-place, 2:12.40), and 100-backstroke (third-place, 1:00.90).

On the boards, Marina Spera collected two third-place finishes and six points for the Tigers leader board. 

Caroline Stowe won the 100-freestyle, cruising to a 53.45 finish while Libby Ruff claimed the 200-freestyle (1:59.32). 

Stowe, Smith, and Koon proved to be a powerful group of relay swimmers, participating in both winning relay teams. 

The Tigers now shift their focus to a dual-meet against WashU on Saturday, January 31st in Erdmann Natatorium.
