Tigers Take Third at Denison Invitational

Granville, Ohio - The DePauw women's swimming and diving team delivered a determined, resilient showing at the highly competitive Denison Invitational, finishing third behind national powers #1 Emory and #4 Denison. Emory claimed the team title with 2,701 points, while the host Big Red followed with 2,101. The Tigers rounded out the field with 565 points, highlighted by standout individual efforts and continued relay consistency across the three-day meet.

DePauw opened the weekend with strong depth in the 200 freestyle relay, securing sixth and seventh. The Tigers' 'A' squad of Priscilla Smith, Anya Melson, Edie Patterson, and Caroline Stowe clocked a 1:36.67 to lead the way.

Distance specialist Edie Patterson set the tone individually with a 10th-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:04.44), marking one of DePauw's top performances on day one.

In the 500 individual medley, Cora Gilbert placed 17th, touching in 2:15.02.

DePauw's freshmen continued to make their presence felt, led by Priscilla Smith, who secured 10th in the 50 freestyle with a blistering 24.00. Smith also contributed heavily in relay events, including helping the Tigers to a sixth-place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:59.70) alongside Melson, McKenzie Ortolano, and Stowe. She returned in the 200 medley relay, where the group of Melson, Ortolano, Emily Knott, and Smith posted another sixth-place finish (1:45.27).

Patterson continued her strong meet with a ninth-place finish in the 200 freestyle, stopping the clock at 1:55.50.

In the backstroke and sprint events, Caroline Stowe delivered two top-seven finishes - placing seventh in the 100 backstroke (57.16) and seventh in the 100 freestyle (52.24). She later anchored the Tigers in the 400 freestyle relay, where Stowe, Libby Ruff, Sophia Hulen, and Patterson combined for a seventh-place finish to close out the weekend.

The Tigers now shift their focus to their winter training trip down to Florida before traveling to Lewis for a dual-meet on January 10th, at 12 p.m. CST.
