Box Score Lexington, Ky. - After trailing by as many as five goals, DePauw closed the gap to 17-15 in the final two minutes, but Transylvania held on for an 18-15 victory. DePauw's four-game win streak came to an end as the Tigers dropped to 4-3, while the Pioneers improved to 6-4.
The hosts scored four times in the opening four minutes and never trailed in the contest. The Tigers scored three straight to knot the score at 4-4, but Transylvania scored six of the next seven to expand the lead to 10-5. DePauw's Grace Clarke scored three of the final four goals in the opening half to trim the Pioneers' halftime lead to 11-8.
Clarke and Bria Randolph each scored in the opening two minutes of the second half as DePauw closed to within one goal at 11-10, but Transylvania scored four straight and kept the Tigers off the board for nearly 12 minutes.
Transylvania led, 17-12, with just over 12 minutes left before Caleigh Ranjo, Emily Napier and Randolph each scored to make it 17-15 with 2:08 left. The Pioneers scored one minute later to seal the victory.
Clarke led the Tigers with six goals, while Randolph and Emma Kennedy each scored three. Tori Salanty led with three assists. Courtney Pontius and Salem Carlow each scored five for Transylvania and each handed out three assists.
Clarke had five of DePauw's 20 ground balls, while Kennedy had six of the team's 18 draw controls. Pontius had seven of Transylvania's 35 ground balls and seven of its 17 draw controls.
Kathryn Hopkins recorded 15 saves in goal for the Tigers, while Abi Waldron stopped eight shots for the Pioneers.
DePauw returns to action on Wednesday, April 14, when it travels to Wittenberg for a 7 p.m. North Coast Athletic Conference West Division game.
