Greencastle, Ind. - The women's lacrosse team fell to the Wooster Fighting Scots with a final score of 23-13. Moving the Tigers to 2-4 in conference and 6-10 overall.
The Scots started the first quarter hot, outscoring the Tigers 5-2. The Tigers delivered goals from
Kai Coffee and
Katie Jauchius in the seventh and ninth minutes, respectively. Wooster continued their momentum in the second quarter, where they scored three straight in two minutes, before
Kai Coffee scored her second goal of the day for the Tigers. The Scots responded with a four-goal run that brought the score to 12-3, before DePauw's
Kate Sullivan scored two goals back-to-back in the remaining minute of the half. Making the score 12-5 going into halftime.
The third quarter began with two Wooster goals, before the Tigers began to claw back with goals from Sullivan,
Delana Underwood,
Rosalie Tasker, and Jauchius to bring the score to 14-9. To finish out the quarter, the Scots tallied two more goals, making it 16-9 going into the final quarter.
Wooster scored to open the fourth, but was quickly met with Tiger goals from
Kate Leone and Jauchius. Sullivan matched another Wooster goal in the sixth minute of the quarter, before the Scots made another run of four goals to make the game 22-12 with less than a minute left. Sullivan scored the Tigers' final goal of the day before Wooster tallied another quick one to make the final score 23-13, Wooster.
DePauw's goalkeeper,
Niamh Callahan, totaled 12 saves on the day. Wooster's goalkeeper, Audrey Richardson, had 8 saves on the day.
DePauw totaled 29 shots to Wooster's 38; the Tigers had 15 turnovers compared to Wooster's 13. The Tigers were 9 of 14 for clearing the ball, while the Scots were 11 of 15 for clearing. The Tigers fell behind in the ground ball game with 19 total ground balls to Wooster's 24, and totaled 16 draw controls on the day compared to Wooster's 21.
With the loss, DePauw falls to 6-10 and 2-4 in conference. The Tigers final game is tomorrow Sunday, April 26th, against Denison for a postponed match up at 2:00 p.m.
