Box Score Elmhurst, Ill. - DePauw scored just 17 seconds into its contest at Elmhurst, but the host Bluejays scored four straight and eight of the next nine on the way to an 18-8 win over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 1-3, while Elmhurst improved to 4-0.
DePauw's Will Roberts gave the Tigers the early lead, but Elmhurst responded just 42 seconds later with the first of four straight scores. Chris Schaefer cut the Bluejays' lead to 4-2 with 1:09 left in the first, but Elmhurst scored twice in the final 50 seconds to take a 6-2 lead into the second period. That lead reached 8-2 early in the second before scores from Connor Gibson and Dan McCauley stopped the run. The Bluejays took a 9-4 advantage into the intermission.
The Tigers battled to an even third quarter as each team scored three, but Elmhurst outscored the Tigers, 6-1, in the fourth to secure the win.
Roberts and Schaefer each scored two goals, while Roberts added two assists. Jack Kneisley scooped up 10 ground balls and won 13 of 26 faceoffs. Patrick Lawton recorded 19 saves in goal.
Marcus Yandall, Ben Luke, Andrew Frerich and Sante Dybowski each scored four for Elmhurst with Jake Grebe and Cullen Nordeman each assisting on three goals. Braden King and Dybowski each had five ground balls with King winning 14 of 27 faceoffs. Jake Delgado totaled 11 saves.
Elmhurst outshot DePauw, 62-31, and had 32 ground balls to the Tigers' 21. DePauw committed 25 turnovers with the Bluejays totaling 14.
DePauw returns to action on Thursday, April 1, when it opens North Coast Athletic Conference play at Wabash.
