Delaware, Ohio - The Tigers lost 21-4 to the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops late Tuesday night, dropping to 1-4 in conference play and 5-7 overall.
The Bishops opened scoring in the first half with a goal by Carson Fialho, before DePauw midfielder
Kam Shiver equalized the score in the sixth minute of play. The Bishops fired back with two goals to exit the quarter with a score of 3-1, OWU leading.
The first half of the second quarter remained scoreless until OWU's Wad Beckstrom scored with half of the quarter to go, followed three minutes later by a goal from attack man
Carter Cassidy. The Bishops then went on a four-goal run to close out the quarter, heading into the half 8-2 OWU.
During halftime, the game went into an hour and a half lightning delay and resumed play at 9:55 p.m.
The Bishops shut out the Tigers in the third quarter, tallying five goals in the quarter.
Both teams went blow for blow in the beginning of the fourth, with Tiger goals from
Kam Shiver and
Cooper Kinney to match OWU, until the Bishops ran away with the game with six unanswered goals to finish the game.
DePauw's senior goalkeeper,
Anthony Reinhardt, totaled 10 saves on the day over the course of three quarters, and sophomore goalkeeper
Emmett Abar totaled three saves in the fourth quarter, while OWU's goaltenders Kal Lonergan had six saves in the first quarter and goaltender John Allen had two saves in the second half.
DePauw was 17 for 26 on clearing the ball and had 30 ground balls, while the Bishops were 20 of 22 on clears and totaled 50 ground balls. The Tigers turned the ball over 22 times during the course of the game, and OWU turned the ball over 23 times.
With the loss, DePauw falls to 5-7 and 1-4 in conference. Their next game is at home for senior day against Kenyon on Saturday, April 18, at 1 p.m.
