Greencastle, Ind. - Freshman Kam Shiver set a new school record for most goals in a game with nine against Wittenberg in DePauw's 19-10 victory, Wednesday night. DePauw moves to 6-8 (2-5) and Wittenberg falls to 1-14 (0-7)
Shivar got the action started early as he scored in the first two-minutes of play to give DePauw a 1-0 lead over Wittenberg. Shivar added another with 8:39 left to play in the first quarter on the man-up. DePauw fell quiet for another seven minutes thanks to Witt's zone defense and they were able to respond with a goal from Quentin Rudolph to cut the lead back down to one. Oscar Kokke would answer back with the last goal of the quarter on a great low corner shot to retake a two goal lead.
DePauw's offense came alive in the second quarter, with all six offensive starters recording a goal in the period. Kokke scored his second goal to start the scoring in the second quarter before Alex Sharma buried a shot low on a fast break opportunity. Gavin Berry scored his first of the night on a quick stick finish off of a feed from Sharma behind the net. Tripp Salowich stopped the scoring run with his first goal of the night to make the score 6-2 in favor of DePauw with 8:37 left in the first half. Noah Sulpizio responded with a bar down rip on the run to stretch the lead back to five. Shivar would go to score three more in the second to put him at five goals on the evening going into half and Jack Neff added a goal as well.
DePauw scored the first two goals of the second half thanks to Kokke and Sharma off assists from Sharma and Berry respectively before hitting a cold spell. The Tigers failed several clears in a row and allowed Witt to go on a four goal run by scorers Ty Harris, Travis Demsher, and Clay Habben to send the game into the fourth quarter 12-6.
DePauw's offense was revived in the fourth behind Shivar's 5 goals in the period. Berry and Kokke would each add one and Neff scored one while the Tigers were man down. Harris, Salowich, and Coleton Simmons scored in the fourth for Witt.
Sharma finished the game with a team-high five assists while Berry and Sulpizio each tallied three. Anthony Reinhardt stood tall and made several great low saves, making 17 on the night and finishing with 63% save percentage. Several Tigers rallied two caused turnovers leading the defense and Nolan Childs and Jack Brand led the team with seven saves.
The DePauw Tigers are back in action Saturday April, 25th on the road at Denison at 1 p.m. for their last regular season match up.
