Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw scored the first two goals of the second half to even the score at 6-6, but visiting Transylvania scored 11 of the game's final 12 goals and came away with a 17-7 victory over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 1-2, while the Pioneers improved to 3-1.
The teams battled through a back-and-forth first half with neither team leading by more than one goal until Transylvania scored twice in the final 37 seconds of the first half for a 6-4 lead. DePauw's Connor Gibson and Tyler McCoy opened the third period with goals to knot the contest at 6-6 with 6:15 left in the third. The Pioneers scored three times in the final five minutes of the third to take a 9-6 advantage. A pair of Transylvania scores in the opening two minutes of the fourth period pushed the lead to 11-6 before DePauw stopped the run with Dan McCauley's score. However, Transylvania countered with a score just 27 seconds later to start a game-ending 6-0 run.
McCoy paced the Tigers with two goals and added an assist, while Bryce Lowe paced Transylvania with five goals. Chris Schaefer led the Tigers with five ground balls, while Jack Kneisley won eight faceoffs. Luke Ruiz-Funes recorded 15 saves in goal including nine during the second period.
Peyton Bray won 16 faceoffs for Transylvania with Michael Webb totaling six ground balls. Webb recorded 14 saves in the win.
Each team finished with 41 shots, but Transylvania held a 32-21 edge in shots on goal. The Pioneers converted 3-of-7 extra-man opportunities, but the Tigers finished 0-for-7.
DePauw travels to Elmhurst on Saturday, March 13, for a 1 p.m. CDT game.
