Tigers Defeated by Yeowomen 17-10

Box Score

Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw University women's lacrosse team fell to the Oberlin College Yeowomen 10-17 in its first North Coast Athletic Conference contest.

The Tigers opened the match with four goals between Kate Flynn, Emma Kennedy, and Tori Salanty. DePauw managed to hold that lead for five minutes before the Yeowomen would answer with four of their own to tie the game at four apiece with nine minutes left in the game.

Just before the half the Kennedy and Salanty put in three more goals for the Tigers to go up 7-4.

In the second half of the matchup, Oberlin would come out with newfound energy, putting in back to back goals to cut DePauw's lead to just one. Within five minutes, the Tigers and the Yeowomen would trade goals, with the Tigers holding onto a 10-9 lead off two consecutive goals by Kate Flynn.

Despite its offensive dominance in the first half, the Tigers couldn't contain the speed of the Yeowomen, leading to a 9-0 scoring run to win the game 17-10.

Though DePauw fell Oberlin, throughout the entirety of the game, the Tigers were neck and neck with the Yeowomen.

Winning 15 of the 28 draws, and recording just 19 fouls throughout the game, DePauw looked to be in control of most of the match. Unfortunately, Oberlin's defensive pressure and free-position conversions hindered the Tigers to make a comeback late in the second half.

DePauw moves to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the NCAC. The Tigers are on the road on Wednesday, March 11, to play Centre at 6 p.m.

I wanted a school that would challenge me both academically and athletically. I knew that DePauw would not only succeed in doing that but also prepare me for my future career.
