Tigers Unable to Hold Lead at Capital

Columbus, Ohio - DePauw held a 9-6 lead late in the third quarter, but host Capital scored eight of the game's final 10 goals for a 14-11 victory over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 0-3, while the Crusaders improved to 2-2.

Capital got out to a 2-0 lead, but DePauw closed the first quarter with three straight as Tyler McCoy scored twice and Quinn Cashion once. McCoy added a third goal in the opening two minutes of the second to give the Tigers a 4-2 advantage. 

Capital evened the score at 4-4 before the teams traded scores the rest of the half to leave the contest tied, 6-6, at the intermission.

The Tigers took their largest lead at 9-6 with three straight goals before the hosts scored twice in the final 2:22 to trim the DePauw lead to 9-8. 

Capital's Luke Wyatt gave his team the lead for good with a pair of scores in the opening 2:27 of the fourth and the Crusaders expanded it to 13-9 with 6:35 left. 

The Tigers scored a pair to close to within 13-11, but Capital scored 13 seconds after the Tigers' second score and sealed the win.

McCoy led the Tigers with four goals, while Will Roberts added three. Quinn Roddy and Ben Davis each assisted on three. 

Talbott Gottwalls and Jack Scharner each scored three for Capital. Cashion paced DePauw with eight ground balls, while Tyler Faig led Capital with nine.

Capital won 18 of the 29 faceoffs and held a 51-32 edge in ground balls. The Crusaders also led in shots, 50-33 and committed 22 turnovers to DePauw's 27.

Patrick Lawton recorded 20 saves for the Tigers, while the Crusaders' Sam McInturf had five.

DePauw travels to Transylvania on March 4 for a 6 p.m. contest.
