Tigers Move to 2-0; Clarke Breaks Goals and Points Record

Greencastle, Ind. -  Led by Grace Clarke's school-record nine goals and 12 points, DePauw moved to 2-0 on the season following a 23-16 win over St. Mary's (Ind.). The Belles dropped to 0-1.

The teams exchanged goals in the first five minutes before the Tigers put together a 5-0 run with the first four coming in a 1:24 stretch as DePauw grabbed a 6-1 advantage with 18:40 left in the half.  The Belles were within three goals two different times before the Tigers went to the halftime intermission with a 12-7 lead.

St. Mary's was still within five at 16-11 midway through the second half before DePauw scored four straight for its biggest margin at 20-11 with 10:36 remaining. The Belles scored twice in the final 18 seconds for the final margin.

Clarke's nine goals topped the program record of seven set by Natalie Swiler at Albion on March 23, 2013. She added three assists for 12 total points which eclipsed the record of 11 by Elizabeth McCracken at Albion on the same date. Tori Salanty and Emma Kennedy each scored four and Kate Flynn had a team-high four assists.

Erin Doyle paced St. Mary's with eight goals and Taylor Overstreet had two assists.

The Belles won 23 of the 41 draws, but had 28 turnovers to the Tigers' 21. DePauw held a 45-32 edge in shots and led in ground balls, 23-18.

Kennedy led DePauw with six draw controls and Maeve Sheehan totaled four ground balls. Molly Mullett paced St. Mary's with seven draw controls with Katie Haas and Liv Heppeler each recording five ground balls.

Kathryn Hopkins recorded five saves in goal for DePauw, while Emily Kraker had 15 for the Belles.

DePauw hosts University of Chicago at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29
