Tigers Remain in Fourth with One Day Left at NCAC Championships

Granvlle, Ohio - DePauw heads to the final day of the North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in fourth place with 660 points. Kenyon leads with 1,316 followed by Denison with 1,144 and Wabash with 850.

The Tigers' 200-yard medley relay of Ryan Smith, Patrick Unterreiner, Ian Longan and Jake Frech opened the evening with a fourth-place showing in 1:35.26.

DePauw placed three in the "A" finals in the 200 freestyle led by Ben Hilfinger in sixth (1:41.64), Frech in eighth (1:43.85) and Will Serf in ninth (1:49.09). Tommy Hackley was 11th in the event in 1:44.09 with Matthew Netherton 20th in 1:48.05.

Longan was sixth in the 100 butterfly (49.04) followed by Seth Fagen in 12th (51.76), Max Steffey in 13th (51.89), Ben Mennitt in 16th (53.50) and Kellen Bachler in 17th (53.76).

Three Tigers placed in the top 16 of the 100 backstroke led by Longan in 10th (50.94), Fagen in 12th (52.16) and Smith in 16th (54.49).

Other top-20 performances included Charlie Stewart-Bates with a 17th in the 400 individual medley (4:16.55) and Unterreiner in 19th in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.74).

The Championships wrap up tomorrow with prelims slated for 9:30 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
