DePauw Erases Five-Goal Deficit but Wooster Scores Late to Win

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw battled back from a 6-1 deficit to tie Wooster at 8-8, but the Fighting Scots scored twice in the final 3:12 to take a 10-8 North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in NCAC play, while Wooster improved to 3-7 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Wooster got out to a 3-0 lead in the first after outshooting the Tigers, 12-3, in the quarter. The Fighting Scots extended the lead to 4-0 in the opening 30 seconds of the second before DePauw got on the board with 3:47 left in the half on Jack Richey's goal.

Wooster extended the lead to 6-1 early in the third before the Tigers started to chip away. DePauw closed to within 6-5 with four goals in a 2:05 stretch as Nate Greenberg started the run before Richey added a pair and Steen Jorgensen scored with 6:21 remaining in the third to close the gap to one.

The Fighting Scots pushed the margin to 8-5 with two scores in the final 1:29 of the third including the second with just two seconds left.

Jorgensen scored with 13:24 left and Quinn Roddy cut the lead to 8-7 with 11:20 remaining before Buck Dorger evened the count at 8-8 with just 5:54 remaining. Wooster's Joe Altieri provided the eventual game-winner with 3:12 remaining on Shaun Peirce's assist. Cullen Kuhn added an insurance tally with 1:42 left.

Richey led the Tigers with three goals, while Jorgensen added two. Jorgensen and Patrick Durnien each assisted on two scores. Drake Nickolaison, Kuhn, Altieri and Cooper Pewitt each scored two for Wooster. Peirce, Kuhn and Altieri each assisted on a pair.

Luke Ruiz-Funes recorded 10 saves for the Tigers, while Wesley Wagner had 10 for the Fighting Scots.

Donny Bleifuss and Matthew Braun each recorded four ground balls with Bleifuss and Quinn Cashion each causing three turnovers. Joe Citera paced Wooster with 10 ground balls with Rob Driscoll causing three turnovers.

Each team recorded 35 shots with DePauw holding a 17-3 edge in the fourth period. Wooster won 11 of 20 faceoffs and held a 30-27 advantage in ground balls. 

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, April 6, with a 1 p.m. game at Oberlin.
