Fast Start Leads DePauw to Win over Berry

Sewanee, Tenn. - DePauw scored the game's first nine goals on the way to a 16-5 win over Berry in a game played at Sewanee. The Tigers improved to 2-5, while the Vikings dropped to 1-11.

DePauw scored nine times in the opening 19:29 as Caleigh Ranjo and Emma Kennedy each scored three during the stretch. Berry stopped the run with a score with 9:18 remaining in the half, but the Tigers closed the half on a 4-0 run to take a 13-1 advantage into the intermission.

The Vikings outscored the Tigers 4-0 over the first 21 minutes of the second half before the Tigers closed the game with three straight.

Kennedy led the Tigers with six goals and two assists, while Ranjo and Sophie Hensley each scored four. Five different Vikings scored one goal each.

Kathryn Hopkins recorded three saves in goal for the Tigers, while Ella Makin had 11 for Berry.

The Tigers outshot Berry, 30-9, and committed 17 turnovers to the Vikings' 28. Berry held a 13-10 advantage in draw controls with DePauw holding a 25-13 edge in ground balls.

Kennedy paced the Tigers with six draw controls and five caused turnovers with Sarah Biely leading with four ground balls. Nikki Beckham led Berry with four draw controls.

DePauw takes on Sewanee on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CDT.
