Tigers Drop Two in NCAC Play

Greencastle, Ind. – The DePauw men's tennis team struggled on Saturday with a pair of NCAC losses, 9-0 to Denison and 7-2 to Ohio Wesleyan.

Against 28th-ranked Denison (10-4, 4-0 NCAC West), no singles match was pushed to three sets.

At No. 1 singles, Greg Frauenheim lost to Vlad Rotnov, who is ranked 10th in the region, 6-2, 6-1. Bryce McClanahan fell at the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 6-0; Alex Pintilie fell 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 3 flight; Matthew Quammen lost 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4; Alex Bertolini was defeated 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 at the No. 5 flight; and at No. 6 Sean Carroll fell 7-5, 6-0.

In doubles play, Frauenheim and McClanahan fell 8-4 at the No. 1 spot, Quammen and Bertolini fell 8-1 at the No. 2 flight and Carroll and Pintilie dropped an 8-5 match at the No. 3 flight.

DePauw then got off to another slow start against Ohio Wesleyan (14-6, 2-1 NCAC West) dropping all three doubles matches, albeit close. The No. 1 and No. 3 teams fell 8-6, and the No. 2 team fell 9-8 (7-2).

The Tigers won shortened games at No. 1 and No. 2 after Ohio Wesleyan had already claimed the win. Frauenheim won 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8), and McClanahan won 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7).

Pinitilie was forced to retire in his second set. Quammen fell 7-5, 6-4; Bertolini fell 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-1); and Sean Carroll lost 6-3, 6-0.

DePauw is now 5-14 overall and 2-2 in the NCAC West. The men travel to WashU on Saturday.
