Strong Singles Play Nets Tigers Win over Wabash

Greencastle, Ind. – After falling behind 3-0 in doubles play, the DePauw men's tennis team won 5 of 6 singles matches for a comeback 5-4 victory over NCAC rival Wabash on Wednesday.

DePauw made the match score 3-3 with two-set wins at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 singles flights. Greg Frauenheim won 6-4, 6-4; Bryce McClanahan won 6-1, 6-0; and Alex Bertolini won 6-4, 6-1.

After the match was moved indoors due to lighting, DePauw went up 4-3 when the No. 6 flight finished where Sean Carroll battled back for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win. Alex Pintilie gave DePauw the win at the No. 3 flight 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 6-3.

Lastly, Matthew Quammen fell at the No. 4 flight 6-0, 6-7 (4-7), 7-5. Quammen trailed 5-1 in the second set before coming back and winning the set but ran out of gas after leading 5-2 in the third set.

The match lasted nearly 4 hours and 30 minutes.

The Tigers are now 4-12 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC West, while Wabash drops to 10-9 and 0-1 in conference play. DePauw will host Wittenberg on Friday in another NCAC West matchup.
