Tigers Advance to NCAC Championship

Granville, Ohio -- The DePauw men's tennis team defeated Oberlin 5-3 in the semifinal of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday.

Things started well for the Tigers, who took a 3-0 advantage after doubles play. However, after losing the first three singles flights DePauw had to rely on its No. 4 and No. 5 singles flights to get the win.

But first at doubles, at No. 1 Patrick Farrell and John Daseke won 8-5; at No. 2 Nate Wallace and Harold Martin won 8-6; and at No. 3 Dan Rodefeld and Matt Santen took an 8-4 win.

DePauw then lost its first three singles flights to tie the match at 3-3.

At No. 4 Greg Frauenheim came back from a first set loss to win 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 6-3. Finally, Petar Barcot ended the match at the No. 5 flight 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). Nate Wallace's No. 6 match was left unfinished.

DePauw improves to 10-9 overall and advances to Sunday's NCAC Championship title match at Kenyon. Match time is cheduled for Noon.
