Greencastle, Ind. – The DePauw men's tennis team took two doubles matches but could not capture a singles victory in a 7-2 loss to Division I Butler on Friday.

It was DePauw's first contest of the spring. They took a win in the fall and now sit at 1-1, while Butler improved to 6-2 on the year.

After Nate Wallace and Harold Martin fell at No. 3 doubles 8-5, the No. 2 doubles team of Matt Santen and John Daseke tied it up with an 8-5 win. Soon after, Dan Rodefeld and Patrick Farrell won at No. 1 doubles, 8-6, winning their last three games.

Play moved inside following a few games into singles action. Only Rodefeld was able to win a set for the Tigers in his loss at No. 1 singles 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.

Farrell lost 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Santen lost at No. 3 despite a late rally 6-2, 7-5. At No. 4 singles, Greg Frauenheim lost 6-1, 6-2. Petar Barcot at No. 5 singles was blanked in his first set but fought back in the second set 6-0, 7-5. Finally, Matthew Quammen fell 7-5, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

The Tigers return to action Sunday when they host the University of Chicago at 12:30 p.m.
