Tigers Down Rival Little Giants

The DePauw men's tennis team started North Coast Athletic Conference West Divisional play by defeating rival Wabash 8-1 on Wednesday.

Harold Martin and Nate Wallace at No. 3 doubles took less than half an hour to put DePauw up on the board with a clean 8-0 win. Wabash tied it up with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles before the No. 1 doubles team of Alec Kaczkowski and Dan Rodefeld broke a late game and won 8-5 to put DePauw ahead early in the team score 2-1.

In singles play, the Tigers took every singles match in straight sets. Patrick Farrell won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Martin won at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1 to start. DePauw locked up the win with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles from Dan Rodefeld.

Greg Frauenheim won at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-0; Kaczkowski won at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-1; and Matt Santen closed the night out with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.

The win moves No. 33 DePauw to 8-8 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC West. Wabash drops to 15-11 overall and 0-1 in the division.

The Tigers are back in action Saturday when they host Denison at 12:30 p.m. and Wittenberg at 5 p.m.
