Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - Visiting North Central put together an 11-2 scoring run that bridged both halves and held off DePauw for a 14-10 win at Reavis Stadium. The Tigers dropped to 1-2, while the Cardinals moved to 1-0.
North Central took a 2-0 lead before the Tigers scored three times in a 3-minute span to grab a 3-2 advantage midway through the first half. Claire Norfleet scored twice to give the Cardinals a 4-3 lead with just over four minutes left in the half before Biance Perri and Kara Stevens each scored with the latter coming with four seconds left in the half for a 6-3 lead.
The Cardinals scored twice in the opening 3:02 of the second half to extend the margin to 8-3 before DePauw's Elizabeth McCracken stopped the run with an unassisted goal with 25:33 remaining.
North Central came right back, however, with five scores in two minutes to push the lead to 13-4. DePauw's Marisa Ellison and Maryclaire Heldring countered in a 23-second span to cut the deficit to 13-6 before Gina Fisher tallied the Cardinals' final goal with 13:35 remaining.
DePauw closed the game with four-straight scores including a pair in the final two minutes.
Heldring paced DePauw with two goals, while eight other Tigers collected one apiece. Norfleet and Fisher each scored three for the Cardinals with Madison Maas and Perri adding two apiece. Fisher also assisted on three and Perri two.
Liz Hawkins recorded 10 saves in goal for DePauw, while Kat Schultz had five for North Central and Camille Seghesio added two.
Emilye Denny and Abby Snively each had three draw controls for DePauw, while Fisher led North Central with six and Emily Zadny added five. Emily Scinta snagged nine ground balls for the Tigers with Fisher picking up eight for the Cardinals.
North Central outshot the Tigers, 27-20, while DePauw held a 35-27 edge in ground balls. DePauw had 33 turnovers to the Cardinals' 30, while North Central won 16 of the 26 draws.
DePauw travels to Mount Union on Saturday, March 12, for a 1 p.m. contest.
