Box Score Greencastle, Ind. – The DePauw men's lacrosse team let an 8-5 game at halftime get away from them as they opened North Coast Athletic Conference play with a 21-6 loss to Kenyon on Saturday.
The loss broke a string of three straight wins for the Tigers, who drop to 3-2 overall on the season. Kenyon improves to 5-1.
Steen Jorgensen recorded a hat trick to lead the Tigers with the first coming after the Lords took an early 4-0 lead. After another goal by Kenyon, DePauw cut the lead further with two unanswered goals. The first came from Ben Sherman and the second from Jorgensen with Austin MacDonald on the assist.
Kenyon led 5-3 after the first period. MacDonald got onto the score sheet with 12:53 remaining in the second period, while Jorgensen finished his hat trick before halftime to put the Tigers within three at the half at 8-5.
However, Kenyon came out of the half strong scoring 10 unanswered goals to take an 18-5 lead early into the fourth period. DePauw finally broke up the run with a goal by Sam Alkema, but Kenyon scored the game's final three goals to make the score 21-6.
Josh Galardi scored seven goals for the Lords. Chris Ferraro and Robert Jacobs added three goals, while Emilio Sosa, Alex Lopez and Nick Vitale each scored two.
Kenyon outshot the Tigers 56-35 and won the ground ball battle 41-20. They also held a 20-9 faceoff advantage. The Lords made 16 saves to the Tigers' 13.
DePauw returns to action Tuesday when they travel to Whittier.
