Greencastle, Ind. - After trailing 6-3 at the half, DePauw scored four goals in the opening nine minutes of the second half and held on for a 9-8 season-opening victory over Carthage at Reavis Stadium. The Lady Reds dropped to 1-1 with the loss.

The Tigers held a 3-2 lead after Emilye Denny's goal with 13:48 left in the first half, but Carthage scored four straight to close the half and take a 6-3 lead.

DePauw's Emma Flynn wasted little time in getting the Tigers back on the board as she scored just 46 seconds into the second half. Denny and Marisa Ellison followed with scores in a one-minute span to even the contest at 6-6.

Flynn's third goal of the game with 21:37 remaining lifted DePauw to a 7-6 advantage. The teams then exchanged goals the rest of the way with the Tigers' Elizabeth McCracken delivering the game winner with 10:48 left.

The Lady Reds had one more chance in the closing seconds, but DePauw's Maryclaire Heldring forced a turnover and the clock expired.

Flynn led the Tigers with three goals, while Denny added a pair and Taylor Summers assisted on two. Madi Lozanoski led with six draw controls and Heldring had six ground balls along with five caused turnovers.

Kara Vana paced Carthage with three goals, while Elizabeth Wittenborg led with two assists. Rachel Mussell led with four draw controls and Kendell Santin picked up eight ground balls.

Liz Hawkins collected the win in goal for DePauw with six saves, while Taylor Sopron had 11 for the Lady Reds.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, March 5, when it hosts North Central (Ill.) at 2 p.m.
