Tigers place well at invite

Greencastle, Ind. – Plenty of tennis action took place over the weekend at DePauw with a number of solid finishes for the Tigers.

In singles play, Patrick Farrell finished third at No. 1 singles after defeating teammate Alec Kaczkowski, who finished fourth, in the third place match 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7). Dan Rodefeld finished fifth with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Saint Joseph's.

At No. 2 singles, Matt Santen finished third after a 6-4, 6-3 win over Northwestern Ohio. John Daseke finished fifth with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Bellarmine in the fifth place match. Daseke defeated teammate Harold Martin, who finished sixth, to get into the match, 6-1, 6-3.

At No. 3 singles, Greg Frauenheim finished third after defeating teammate Matthew Quammen 7-5, 6-2. Alex Bertolini finished in fifth with wins over Bellarmine (6-2, 0-6, 1-0 (10-5)) and Saint Joseph's (6-2, 6-0).

At No. 4 singles, Harold Martin finished in third after defeating Bellarmine 6-2, 6-2. Nate Wallace finished in fifth with wins over Saint Josephs' 6-0, 6-0 and teammate Nick Thompson 6-4, 6-0. Thompson finished in sixth.

At No. 5 singles, Nick Makowiecki finished third after capturing a 6-0, 6-3 win over Saint Joseph's. Alex Pintilie finished fifth with a late win over Bellarmine 6-2, 6-0.

At No. 6 singles, Depauw had a pair competing in the third place match. David Turlington defeated Michael Kolbus 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). For fifth place, Dominick Amalraj beat Bellarmine 6-1, 6-0.

In the No. 1 doubles flight, Farrell and Quammen finished in second place after losing the final to A. Huertas Del Pino and Christoph Drechsler from the University of Indianapolis 6-3, 6-1. Earlier, Farrell and Quammen took a 6-4, 6-0 win over St. Joseph's and a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) win over teammates Kaczkowski and Rodefeld.

Kaczowski and Rodefeld finished third in the No. 1 doubles flight and won their final match against the University of Northwestern Ohio by default. They also took a bye in the first round.

Daseke and Wallace finished fifth after wins against Bellarmine (8-5) and St. Joseph's (8-6) in the consolation bracket.

In the No. 2 doubles flight, Frauenheim and Bertolini finished in fourth after losing the third place match 8-1 to teammates Martin and Santen. Both teams advanced from their first round match.

In the No. 3 doubles flight, DePauw again faced off in the third place match where Thompson and Makowiecki defeated Kolbus and Turlington 8-3. Thompson and Makowiecki took a bye in the first round while Kolbus and Turlington won 6-0, 6-1 against Bellarmine.

No team scores were kept.
