Lexington, Va. - Washington and Lee opened its match with DePauw by winning two of the three doubles matches and that was the difference as the Generals topped the Tigers, 5-4. DePauw dropped to 6-8, while Washington and Lee improved to 11-4.
DePauw's third doubles team of Patrick Farrell and Harold Martin picked up an 8-2 win over Ethan Markman and Sam Borowsky, but the Tigers suffered 8-3 and 9-7 losses at first and second doubles, respectively.
Farrell was a 7-5, 7-5 winner over Christopher Hu at number-three singles, while Eric Bruynseels defeated Brian Krouskos 6-4, 6-1 at number four. The Tigers' other singles win came at the fifth spot where Matt Santen rallied to top Will Bannister 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7).
The Tigers return to action and wrap up the spring break trip on Saturday with a 2 p.m. match at Mary Washington.
