Gambier, Ohio - DePauw, ranked 25th in Division III dropped both of its matches today as they lost, 7-2, to eighth-ranked Kenyon and 6-3 to 30th-ranked Swarthmore. The Tigers are now 5-7 on the season.
DePauw jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles against Kenyon as Eric Vannatta and Alex Kaczkowsi picked up an 8-4 win at the number one spot over Sam Geier and Tim Rosensteel and the third-doubles tandem of Patrick Farrell and Harold Martin topped Robert Turlington and Davis Thrailkill by an 8-1 score.
Chris Bertolini and Dan Rodefeld won their first sets at first and third singles, respectively, but Kenyon rallied for wins in both. The other four singles matches were decided in straight sets.
In the Swarthmore match, DePauw trailed 2-1 after doubles as Bertolini and Rodefeld picked up a 9-7 win at the second position over John Larkin and Blake Oetting.
DePauw's Eric Bruynseels was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at fifth singles over Michael Sorg, while Matt Santen took a sixth-singles victory over Josh Powell 6-0, 6-2.
Each of the first four singles matches went to first set tiebreakers and two were decided in three sets after DePauw won the first set. Swarthmore won all four of those matches.
The Tigers return to action on March 25 when they face North Carolina Wesleyan in Richmond, Va.
