Tigers Improve to 3-3 in Blowout Victory Over Millsaps

Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw men's lacrosse team set a program record with 22 goals in its 22-4 victory over Millsaps, Wednesday afternoon at Reavis Stadium.

The Tigers moved to 3-3 on the year, matching last season's win total, while Millsaps dropped to 2-5 overall.

Ben Sherman and Nick Woerner led the offensive charge, tallying five goals each. Sherman opened DePauw's scoring with an unassisted goal just 1:03 into the game. Sam Alkema followed with an unassisted strike at the 10:59 mark and Sherman connected with Jack Roberts just 56 seconds later to put the Tigers up 3-0.

Andrew Wright tallied an unassisted goal at the 8:00 mark and Benton Givens took a pass from Sherman, adding the Tigers' fifth goal just 26 seconds later. Woerner would score DePauw's next three goals on assists from Givens and two from Wright.

Leading 8-0 after the first, the Tigers kept up the offensive pressure as Kyle Roberts fired in an unassisted goal with 8:20 on the clock. Wright netted his second unassisted goal at the 6:24 mark and Alkema followed with an unassisted strike with 5:15 remaining in the half.

Alkema connected with Sherman for DePauw's 12th goal at the 1:05 mark. Just seven seconds later it was Sherman finding Woerner who fired in his fourth goal of the half.

In the third quarter, Millsaps was finally able to break the scoreless drought, netting a goal from Simon Sherman on an assist from Jack Houtz. Houtz added an unassisted goal with 10:43 left in the period, making the score 13-2.

With 9:38 left in the third Woerner took a pass from Wright and fired in his fifth goal. Kyle Roberts connected with Alkema 35 seconds later, putting DePauw up 15-2. Sherman scored back-to-back goals for the Tigers on assists from Wright and Grant Skipper.

Millsaps tacked on its third goal with 2:30 left in the period on an unassisted strike from Sherman.

Ryan Mauro got in on the scoring action on an assist from Sherman with just 1:49 remaining in the third. The Tigers would net four consecutive goals in the fourth period. Sherman led the charge, scoring on an assist from Wright with 12:23 on the clock. Sherman would provide an assist on Givens' second goal with 8:36 remaining.

Woerner found Wright with 6:54 left in the game, giving DePauw a 21-3 lead. Connor Patterson closed out the Tigers' scoring, netting his first collegiate goal on an assist from Sherman with 6:34 on the clock.

The Majors netted the final goal of the contest with 2:02 remaining on an unassisted goal from Sherman.

DePauw held a 54-21 shot advantage and a 48-23 edge on ground balls. Skipper paced the Tigers with 11 ground balls and won 20-of-23 faceoffs. DePauw was successful on 13-of-15 clears, while holding Millsaps to just a 13-for-27 mark on clear attempts.

Joe Musto and Zach Taylor each made three saves in the win, while Riley McLean grabbed 10 saves and Davis Sugg added two saves in a losing effort. The Majors committed four penalties for 3:30 penalty time and DePauw had three penalties for 2:00.

In the victory, Sherman set a new single-game record for DePauw with 11 total points and six assists.

The Tigers return to North Coast Athletic Conference action when they travel to Kenyon on Saturday, March 14, for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
