Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw men's lacrosse team currently sits at 1-1 early in the 2015 season, looking to improve upon last year's 3-12 overall record.
In addition to notching the first win in program history, defeating Elmhurst 14-6, the Tigers added two more wins over Hope and Hiram in 2014.
This year, DePauw opened with a 13-8 victory at Rhodes and lost a nail-biter to Illinois Wesleyan, 12-11, on a last-second goal.
Looking to lead the team this season is sophomore Eric Speer, who was an All-NCAC Honorable Mention selection in 2014. The defensemen has netted one goal and five groundballs thus far. Joining Speer are sophomores Grant Skipper and Sam Alkema. Skipper leads the team with 17 groundballs and is 31-for-51 in faceoffs, while Alkema has three goals and two assists this year.
A trio of freshman have made significant contributions to the Tigers' early season success. Ben Sherman and Andrew Wright lead the team with eight points each. Sherman has three goals and a team-high five assists, while Wright paces DePauw with five goals and three assists. Kyle Roberts is second on the team with six points on four goals and two assists.
Picked to finish seventh in the North Coast Athletic Conference preseason poll, the Tigers open conference play Sunday, March 1, against the reigning NCAC Champions from Denison. Sunday's game is slated for a 3:00 p.m. start at Reavis Stadium.
