Greencastle, Ind. - The Tigers opened the 2014-15 season by hosting the DePauw Invitational and advanced to the finals in a pair of singles and doubles flights.
Sean Carroll finished second in the third singles flight after defeating Alex Schroeder of Ohio Dominican in the quarterfinals 6-2, 6-0 before topping Bellarmine's Alan Gardiner 6-3, 6-4. Justin Tjon of Ohio Dominican won the flight with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Carroll.
John Daseke was a finalist in fifth singles after defeating Alex Martin of Indiana-Southeast 6-3, 6-1 and Austin Atem of Indianapolis 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-3. Daseke dropped the title contest to Grand Valley State's Bryan Hodges 6-2, 6-3.
The first doubles tandem of Patrick Farrell and Harold Martin earned a bye into the second round before defeating Francis Bertrand and Alex van de Steenoven. 6-0, 7-6 (3). Gabor Csonka and Tjon of Ohio Dominican then topped the DePauw duo in the finals 6-2, 6-0.
Eric Bruynseels and Matt Santen opened play in the third doubles flight with a 7-6(6), 6-2 win over Cordova and Razo of Indianapolis and defeated Braun and Mills of IU-Southeast in the semifinals 6-1, 6-1. Grand Valley State's Heiniger and Hodges collected a 7-6(4), 6-2 victory over Bruynseels and Santen in the finals.
DePauw returns to the courts on Wednesday, September 17, when it travels to Marian (Ind.).
