Slow Start Dooms Tigers

Oberlin, Ohio- Oberlin tallied six first quarter goals on their way to a 17-4 victory over the Tigers Saturday afternoon in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

DePauw dropped to 3-9 overall and 1-4 in the NCAC, while the Yeomen improved to 6-6 on the year and grabbed their first NCAC win in five tries.

Oberlin jumped out to a fast start scoring in the first two minutes of the contest. Connor Jackson and Alex Wagman led the Yeomen with two first quarter goals. Jackson would score three goals to open the second quarter and extend Oberlin's lead to 9-0.

With 2:03 left in the half Ned Hartfiel scored an unassisted goal to put the Tigers on the board. Oberlin would quickly answer to take a 10-1 lead into halftime.

The third quarter featured three straight Yeomen goals before DePauw was able to find the net. Richard McGowan scored on an unassisted strike with 2:37 left in the third to make the score 13-2.

DePauw opened the fourth quarter with a pair of goals to round out their scoring for the day. Eric Speer fired an unassisted goal with 11:38 on the clock and Robert Lapp added an unassisted goal a minute later to make the score 13-4. Oberlin scored four goals to close out the contest.

The Yeomen were led by Jackson and Wagman who scored six goals and four goals respectively, while Erickson Andrew made eight saves in goal.

Speer grabbed nine ground balls and Tom Kryspin made 15 saves for the Tigers.

Oberlin outshot DePauw 54-20 and held a 33-22 edge on ground balls. The Tigers committed five penalties for 4:30 of penalty time, while the Yeomen had three infractions for a total of two minutes of penalty time.

The Tigers are back in action Wednesday, April 16, when they travel to Wittenberg for a 4 p.m. contest.
