Hilton Head Island, S.C. - DePauw improved to 7-3 on the season and opened its spring break trip with a 7-2 win over Carleton. The Knights dropped to 7-4.
The Tigers took a 3-0 lead after doubles with Sam Miles and Ben Kopecky taking an 8-4 win at the top spot over McCoy Becker and Erik Johnson and the DePauw duo of Alex Kaczkowski and Eric Vannatta claiming an 8-6 victory over Mauricio Gonzalez and Andrew Hwang at number two. DePauw's Patrick Ferrell and Harold Martin triumphed over Christian Nagy and Ezra Frankel, 8-4, at third doubles.
Miles and Kopecky were straight-set winners in singles at the first and second flights as was Matt Santen at sixth singles. Kaczkowski dropped the opening set at fourth singles but rallied to win the second-set tiebreaker and then the decisive third set.
DePauw faces Oberlin tomorrow at 9 a.m.
