Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw men's lacrosse squad continued its inaugural season, losing 14-9 in their first North Coast Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon against the Hiram Terriers on Boswell Field in Greencastle, Ind.

The Tigers fell to 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in NCAC play, while the Terriers picked up the first victory in program history, moving to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC.

DePauw was led on the offensive end by Pierce Ellinwood's four goals. Ellinwood's output moved him into the team lead for points with nine on the season (7 goals, 2 assists).

Tigers' attacker Sam Johnson tallied two goals and Chris Deaver, Jack Glerum and Greg Lambert all chipped in with a goal. Ellinwood, Cameron Combs and Chris Deaver registered assists during the contest.

Hiram spread its 14 goals over just five laxers as Greg Summers notched six, Chris Lekan had five and John Deegan, Caleb Capron and Aaron Hare each added one.

DePauw's JR Strubbe blocked four shots in the net, while Hiram's Sawyer Lott turned away 12 of DePauw's chances.

The Tigers got off to a fast start on the Terriers, leading 5-1 midway through the first period before DePauw's offense was stifled due to a variety of penalties.

From there, the Terriers would close the game with a 13-4 run, due in large part to 20 DePauw penalties, for 19:30 of penalty time.

DePauw outshot Hiram, 34-29, during the game and scooped up 38 groundballs to Hiram's 23.

The Tigers continued their dominance inside the circle, winning 18 of 27 faceoffs.

DePauw returns to action on Monday, March 25 against Elmhurst in Elmhurst, Ill. The match is slated to begin at 4pm ET.
