May 3, 2008, St. Louis, Mo. - The 16th-ranked Tigers advanced to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship third round following a 5-1 second-round win over Wheaton (Ill.) at Washington-St. Louis.
DePauw improved to 19-6 with the win, while the Thunder finished the season at 14-7. The Tigers take on fifth-ranked Washington in Saturday's Noon CDT third-round match. The Bears defeated Grinnell, 5-1, in today's other second-round contest. Sunday's winner advances to the national quarterfinals.
Wheaton's lone point came at number-one doubles as Josh Williams and Justin Miller topped Kortney Keith and Scott Swanson by an 8-5 score.
DePauw took a 2-1 lead after the number three doubles squad of Cameron Nash and Hunter Schouweiler defeated David Warren and Jordan Williams, 8-4, and the number two tandem of Will Gates and Bryan Heck beat Davis Moore and Ian Kirchner, 8-3.
Swanson defeated Miller by a 6-2, 6-4 score at number two singles before Evan Hunter topped Warren by a 6-4, 6-1 count at the number five slot. Scott Sauer wrapped up the win by defeating Kirchner 6-4, 6-1 at number four.
