Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw men's swimming team fell to the University of Chicago Maroons 144-115 in its final home meet of the 2022-23 season. DePauw completed the afternoon with five individual first-place finishes and a total of 18 top-three finishes.

The Tigers kicked off the meet with a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay, with
Eli VanHaaren,
Evan Steffy,
Ben Hilfinger, and
James Shorney finishing with a time of 1:39.07.

In individual finishes, Hilfinger paced DePauw earning two individual first-place finishes. In the 50 free, he swam a 21.13 for first, and in the 100 fly, Hilfinger swam a 49.04 for first place and a new pool record formally held by Orion Martin of Rose-Hulman who swam a 49.36 on Jan. 16, 2016.

The remaining first-place individual finishes came from Shorney,
Braden Mallery, and
Brock Kinnamon. Shorney earned first in the 100 free with a time of 46.83 and a third-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 54.21. Mallery took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.18 and finished second in the 100 free(48.86). Kinnamon rounded out the first-place finishers after swimming the 200 fly with a time of 2:00.39; he would also finish the afternoon with a third-place finish in the 500 free after swimming it in 5:00.46.Â

In the 1000 free,
Alexander Bridgmohan finished in 10:25.30 for second place, followed by teammate
Nathan Turner (10:35.58) for third place.
Jimmy Anderson earned second in the 100 backstroke after swimming a 55.81, and
Patrick Unterreiner swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.71 for second place. Unterreiner also earned third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:16.95.
Michael Ray earned third in the 50 free after swimming it in 22.29.

In the day's final event, DePauw took first and third place in the 200-free relay. With a time of 1:26.27, Shorney,
Robbie Sheffield,
Ethan Williams Fonner, and Hilfinger earned first place. Turner, Mallery,
Parker Fleischman-Ament, and Kinnamon finished third with a time of 1:32.22

The Tigers travel to Granville, Ohio, to compete in NCAC Championships, hosted by Denison University, from Wednesday, Feb. 8, to Saturday, Feb. 11.
