Tigers Shutout Pioneers, 2-0 on the Road

Box Score

Lexington, Ky- The DePauw University field hockey team bounced back from its Saturday loss to Centre and shutout the Transylvania University Pioneers 2-0.

Powering through torrential rain, the Tigers across the first half outshot the Pioneers 11 to 0 while earning five penalty corners.

DePauw's first goal of the matchup was just after a penalty corner; Maddie DeAscentis shoveled the ball to Sarah Goff to put the Tigers on the board.

Unfortunately, due to a weather delay, DePauw couldn't fully capitalize on the shift of momentum and faced a rested opponent in the third quarter, leading to a more evenly match quarter.

Unwilling to give the Pioneers a chance to answer, the Tigers turned up their offense, putting up nine shots and five more corners in the fourth quarter.

In the 47th minute of play, Goff would find the back of the cage again, off an assist by Christina Bourantas.

The Tigers played tough, holding onto its two-goal lead to win the game, breaking a three-game losing streak as it heads into North Coast Athletic Conference play this week.

DePauw is back home on Tuesday, October 5, to face Ohio Wesleyan at 7 pm EDT.

I was looking for an institution that was both academically strong and allowed me to play field hockey.
