Gambier, Ohio - DePauw University field hockey shut down Kenyon College, 4-0, in penultimate game of the 2025 regular season.
The Tigers were quick to strike with Hailey Nowak scoring at 4:32 unassisted after gathering a ricocheted shot on the cage and finding a path between defenders legs to score the first goal of the game.
Their second chance to get on the board came nearly five minutes late when DePauw drew a penalty corner. Ella Morris put the ball into play with the Tigers passing it along the back line before Ellie Lochhead shot the ball from the outer ring of the penalty circle towards the cage. Nowak was waiting, crowding the cage, ready to redirect the shot into the cage.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Hannah Zaiser claimed a stray pass after the Owls reset for a foul outside their defending cage. A loose ball allowed for Zaiser to record the third goal of the day for the Tigers with a clean, uncontended stroke down the middle.
Right before halftime, Nowak drew a penalty shot and delivered a clean shot to the left side of the goal to secure a hat trick on the day. Nowak tallied eight goals on the day overall while Maggie Volpe proved an offensive weapon for the team with five shots. At the half, DePauw led 4-0 with no signs of stopping.
DePauw edged Kenyon 20-4 in shots, 12-3 for shots on goal, and 6-1 in penalty corners. The Tigers' last defense tallied three saves in goal between Olivia Streifel and Tea Jerro who split game time evenly.
The Tigers await post season conference playoff seeding. All other schools in the conference have one remaining game in the season whereas DePauw has no games remaining due to the cancellation of their match up against Earlham at the beginning of the season.
No teams can beat their 12-4 (8-1) record, only tie, giving the team a guaranteed place in post season play starting on November 5th with semifinals and ending on November 8th with the NCAC championship game.
