Box Score Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw University field hockey team bounced back from its two-game skid to beat the Wittenberg University Tigers 2-0 in its final home game of the season.
The DePauw Tigers from the jump put pressure on Wittenberg's midfield, forcing most of the play into DePauw's attacking half.
The pressure paid off for the DePauw Tigers in the 13th minute when senior Maddie DeAscentis shuffled the ball across the circle to find Amy Apfelbaum for the deflection and goal.
Up a goal heading into the second half, the Wittenberg Tigers managed to push the ball into its attacking half and force two penalty corners. However, DePauw's defense remained poised and stopped the Wittenberg Tigers' attacks before it ever made it into the striking circle.
At the end of the second half, a yellow card put the DePauw Tigers down a player for over half of the third quarter. Despite being down a player, DePauw stayed its course and forced most of the third quarter to be played in its attacking half.
Still down a player, in the 38th-minute of play, DeAscentis tallied her second assist of the afternoon after finding Allison Quackenbush in front of the congested Wittenberg cage.
Wittenberg attempted to cut the DePauw Tigers' lead in half in the 40th-minute; however, a combination of the defensive containment and a diving save by Allie Duranceau kept DePauw up by two.
With this afternoon's win, the DePauw Tigers move to 3-3 in North Coast Athletic Conference play and 5-9 overall. The Tigers are back on the road Saturday, October 23, and face Denison University at 11 am EDT.
