Box Score Richmond, Ind.- The 18th-ranked DePauw field hockey team was on the road Wednesday night taking on the Quakers of Earlham College. After a slow start the Tigers began to pull away, winning the contest by a final score of 6-0.
With the win, DePauw improved to 14-2 on the year and 10-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Earlham dropped 0-16 overall and 0-12 in NCAC play.
It was the Tigers' Kate Jovanovic who opened up the scoring as she tallied a goal on an assist from Grace Goodbarn in the 15th minute. Paige Henry followed just three minutes later with an unassisted strike to put DePauw up 2-0.
The Tigers had a chance to increase their lead late in the first half when Grace Waldman stepped up to attempt a penalty stroke. However, Waldman's shot was knocked down by Quaker goalie Brynna Foreman, sending the contest to halftime.
In the second half, it was Paige Berliner who found the back of the cage in the 44th minute on an assist from Maggie Campbell to extend DePauw's lead. Goodbarn fired in a shot just 61 seconds later to put the Tigers up 4-0.
Jovanovic notched her second goal of the contest when she scored an unassisted goal in the 49th minute. Laynie Thomas rounded out the scoring when she rattled the cage on an assist form Reilly Bruce in the 57th minute.
The Tigers dominated offensively, outshooting Earlham 33-0, while holding an 11-0 edge on penalty corners. Sarah Guendert pitched her first collegiate shutout for the Tigers, while Foreman made 19 saves in a losing effort for the Quakers.
DePauw returns to action Friday, October 24, when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
