Rose-Hulman Rallies for 8-7 Win over DePauw

Box Score Terre Haute, Ind. - DePauw built a 5-0 lead through six innings, but host Rose-Hulman scored eight runs over the final three innings to take an 8-7 win over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 5-5, while the Fightin' Engineers improved to 5-4.

The Tigers got on the board in the third as Max Bond led off with a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on Drew Straub's single before scoring on Ty Sucher's single. Straub then scored after a throwing error on Grady Johnson's sacrifice bunt.

Carter Knoll singled in the sixth and moved to second on a balk before Charlier Hawk waled. Both runners advanced on a passed ball and Bond's walk loaded the bases. Straub then delivered a triple to center to make it 5-0.

Jonathan.Oliger led off the Rose-Hulman seventh with a single before pinch-hitter Jackson Summers walked and Kade Kline singled to load the bases. Oliger scored Rose-Hulman's first run after an error allowed Josh.Erpenbeck to reach on a fielder's choice. Summers scored on a passed ball and Colter Couillard-Rodak singled home Kline and Erpenbeck to cut the DePauw lead to 5-4.

Oliger walked with one out in the eighth and moved to third on Summers' double. Kline brought home both with a single to give Rose-Hulman a 6-5 lead. Kline advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Connor O'Connell's single.

DePauw came back in the ninth as Straub singled, moved to second on Sucher's ground out and scored on Grady Johnson's single. Danny Glimco's double advanced Johnson to third and he scored on Knoll's sacrifice fly. 

Couillard-Rodak led off the bottom of the ninth by being hit by a pitch and moving to second on a wild pitch. Peter Rogers moved Couillard-Rodak to third with a sacrifice bunt. Ryland Hixon was hit by a pitch and Oliger was intentionally walked. Summers then delivered the game-winning single against a drawn in DePauw infield.

Straub collected three of DePauw's nine hits, while Kline and Summers each had two of Rose-Hulman's nine.

Oliger improved to 1-0 with the win, while Ben Axelrod dropped to 0-1.

DePauw hosts North Central (Ill.) on Thursday, March 21, at 4 p.m.
